In Kadampa Buddhism, the practice of transference of consciousness is known as 'powa,' which literally means "transference". Join us each month to explore this ancient practice which involves guiding the consciousness of the recently deceased to the Pure Land of Buddha, a world free from the painful rebirths of samsara.

This class follows the monthly Prayers for the Recently Deceased Practice. This class will be based on the book Living Meaningfully, Dying Joyfully by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, which is available in our bookstore, or here in e-book, paperback, and audiobook formats.

Take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life in the peaceful surroundings of Menlha's beautiful meditation room. Everything has been arranged for you to rest your mind and reflect on positive thoughts. During these Saturdays, you will be gently guided in two meditations that heal our past, our body and our mind. Each month we change the focus of our reflections - from simple breathing meditations to healing our body meditations, to contemplations on cherishing others more deeply.

What is Retreat?

"On retreat we stop all forms of business and extraneous activities so as to emphasize a particular spiritual practice. There are three kinds of retreat: physical, verbal and mental. We engage in physical retreat when, with a spiritual motivation, we isolate ourself from other people, activities and noise, and disengage from extraneous and meaningless actions. We engage in verbal retreat when, with a spiritual motivation, we refrain from meaningless talk and periodically keep silence. We engage in mental retreat by preventing distractions and strong delusions such as attachment, anger, jealousy and strong self-grasping from arising, and by maintaining mindfulness and conscientiousness...

From the book 'Heart Jewel' by Ven. Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
