Busy Road, Peaceful Mind

How to stay calm in traffic

Most of us find driving stressful, and we usually blame the traffic itself – if only the road weren’t so busy or narrow, if only the drivers weren’t so aggressive or so slow, if only they’d add a left turn lane – we feel we would have an easier time commuting or doing errands.

For as long as we believe our stress is caused by the road, the traffic, or the other drivers, we will be trapped in negativity; but we can train in simple changes of attitude that will make all the difference. Through special Buddhist meditations we can accomplish a change of perspective that will allow us to maintain peace and joy inside while driving, and these practical lessons will extend to other areas like work and home.
